On October 30, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) published a final rule in the Federal Register regarding accreditation. The final rule follows ED’s establishment of the Accreditation, Innovation, and Modernization (AIM) Negotiated Rulemaking Committee earlier this year, which came to consensus on proposed regulatory changes. ED published a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on this topic on August 20. The attached memorandum summarizes the final rule and notes where the regulatory text differs from the NPRM.
