Institution Relinquished Accreditation

When an institution relinquishes its accreditation, it has made the decision to permanently discontinue its educational activities, or it has merged with another accredited institution. When the decision has been made to close, the institution is encouraged to do so in a well-planned and thoughtful manner, guided by the Commission’s Considerations When Closing an Institution on Higher Education.

In addition, in accordance with the Commission’s policy on Teach-Out Plans and Teach-Out Agreements, and as required by Federal regulation, an institution that is discontinuing its operations is required to submit a teach-out plan to ensure that mechanisms are in place for students to complete their education with minimal disruption.
